The Kansanshi mine in Zambia is the largest copper mine in Africa and is owned and operated by Kansanshi Mining PLC. Kansanshi Mining is 80% owned by First Quantum Minerals subsidiary while the remaining 20% is owned by a subsidiary of ZCCM. The mine is located approximately 10 kilometres north of the town of Solwezi in Zambia. The operations produce approximately 135,000 ounces of gold and about 230,000 tonnes of copper per annum.
The mine commenced production is 2005, and since this date has undergone several expansions. Process E & I has been involved with many of these ongoing electrical and process plant upgrades. These have included the installation of additional Crushing, Milling, Flotation and electrowinning capacity over the past 11 years. We have also been involved with several exciting new projects including the installation of a pressure leach and associated oxygen plant, a large standby diesel power station and trolley assist (installation of electric trolley lines to power the haulpaks, via specially designed pantographs, on the pit exit ramps).
